Jean-Michel Besnier is a French heir who has a net worth of $2.9 billion. Born in 1968, Jean-Michel Besnier has become one of the wealthiest men in France thanks to his family fortune. After the death of his father Michael Besnier, in 2000, Jean-Michel and his siblings, Emmanuel and Marie, inherited Lactalis, a multi-national dairy products corporation. Back in 1933, his grandfather, André Besnier founded a small cheese-making company Besnier that in 1968 launched its famous Président brand.
Through the years, Besnier merged with many dairy companies like Bridel and Sorrento, and in 1999, Besnier Group became Lactalis Group. Gradually, the dairy company has grown into world's largest dairy products company, and it has become a powerhouse operating in over 50 sites with more than 52,000 employees worldwide, holding brands such as Valmont, Sorrento, Président, Société, Rachel's Organic, and Bridel. Besnier's solid financials were brought to light when the siblings, through another holding, purchased a controlling stake of the Italian milk producer Parmalat publicly in 2011, saving it from bankruptcy. Until then, they were maintaining a low profile owning 100% of the family company Lactalis.
